This fund primarily channels a minimum of 80% of its net assets, including any capital raised through borrowing for investment, into securities that provide interest income free from federal income tax. Nevertheless, up to one-fifth of its earnings may stem from holdings subject to the alternative minimum tax. While the fund is authorized to acquire securities of any duration, it generally seeks to maintain a weighted average effective maturity between three and ten years. This approach to targeting effective maturity offers the portfolio manager greater adaptability.
