This investment vehicle provides individuals with an opportunity to participate in the economic growth of developing nations. It achieves this by focusing on established and robust companies within those regions. Under normal operating conditions, a substantial portion—at least 80%—of its capital is committed to equities or instruments tied to equity from issuers located in emerging market countries. These issuers can be of any size. For defining "emerging markets," the fund generally includes all global nations, with the notable exceptions of the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and the majority of Western European states.
