The fund's primary goal is achieved by typically investing its assets across all the companies that comprise the S&P SmallCap 600® Index, along with holding futures contracts designed to mirror the index's performance. This usually entails acquiring all 600 individual stocks within the index in proportions that reflect their weighting. However, there are times when the fund might instead opt to invest in a carefully chosen, representative sample of stocks from the index, in combination with index-tracking futures.
