GT Biopharma Advances Immunotherapy for Blood Cancers with GTB-3650
GT Biopharma, Inc. is making significant progress in the realm of cancer treatment with its innovative immunotherapy drug, GTB-3650. Recently, the company successfully completes a safety review for the third dosing group (Cohort 3) in its Phase 1 clinical trial, which focuses on patients suffering from relapsed or refractory blood cancers, particularly acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and high-risk myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). The trial's positive safety profile, with no reported issues of safety or tolerability, allows the company to advance to Cohort 4, where patients will receive a dose of 10μg/kg/day. Patient screening for this cohort is currently underway, with dosing expected to commence shortly.
GTB-3650 operates by enhancing the body’s natural killer (NK) cells, which play a crucial role in targeting and eliminating cancerous cells. The treatment regimen includes continuous infusions over a two-week period, followed by a two-week rest, allowing for a potential treatment duration of up to four months, depending on the individual patient's response. So far, six patients have been treated across the initial cohorts, and all have demonstrated tolerability at increasing doses. Encouraging trends in immunological biomarkers observed among these patients have led the company to believe that the dosing for Cohort 4 may represent a threshold for clinical efficacy, further igniting hopes for a breakthrough in treating challenging blood cancers.
As GT Biopharma progresses in its clinical trial, it does so against a backdrop of growing recognition and advancements in targeted therapies for blood cancers. The recent FDA approval of the first once-daily menin inhibitor for relapsed NPM1-mutated AML underscores the evolving landscape of blood cancer treatments. With its next comprehensive update expected in the first quarter of 2026, GT Biopharma is poised to contribute significantly to the fight against some of the most difficult cancer types through its advanced immunotherapy approach.
In addition to its clinical advancements, GT Biopharma’s work reflects a larger trend in oncology towards immunotherapy, which harnesses the body’s immune system to combat cancer. The focus on enhancing NK cells with GTB-3650 positions the company at the forefront of this transformative therapeutic strategy. As the clinical trials continue to yield positive results, the potential for GTB-3650 to provide new hope for patients with limited treatment options becomes increasingly tangible.
