TL;DR
- K2 Gold reported silver, gold and copper assays from 613 rock samples at the Morningstar target.
- Results add a polymetallic dimension to a historical gold-focused exploration area, with multiple mineralisation styles identified.
- The company plans to refine targets for drill testing, while noting the selective nature of grab samples and the status of historical assays.
K2 Gold Corporation (TSXV: KTO; OTCQX: KTGDF) has reported high-grade silver, gold and copper assays from 613 rock samples collected across the Morningstar target in Inyo County, California. The company announcement is dated 26 August 2026.
A broad corridor with multiple targets
Morningstar is approximately 7km from the Eastside Gold Trend at K2's Mojave Project. The 2026 program tested a 2,000m by 800m mineralised corridor containing the H Zone, B Zone, Ignacio and newly identified R-Zone targets.
The results broaden the way K2 is presenting Morningstar. Historical exploration focused mainly on gold, while the latest sampling points to a combination of silver, gold, copper and lead across several target areas. That gives the company a wider set of geological features to assess as it considers the next phase of work.
Selected sampling highlights
The strongest reported silver result came from Ignacio, where sample C0105155 returned 2,737 g/t Ag, 4.37 g/t Au and 2.42% Cu. A second Ignacio sample, C0105158, returned 1,420 g/t Ag, 7.44 g/t Au and 1.34% Cu.
The other target areas also produced notable combinations. At the H Zone, sampling returned 38 g/t Ag, 5.84 g/t Au and 1.32% Cu. At the B Zone, a sample returned 74 g/t Ag, 4.93 g/t Au and 0.62% Pb. The newly identified R-Zone returned 618 g/t Ag and 23.2% Cu.
Across the full program, 232 samples returned more than 0.10 g/t Au, 96 returned more than 10 g/t Ag and 66 returned more than 0.2% Cu. K2 said the results confirm several styles of mineralisation, including skarn and carbonate-replacement systems, polymetallic veins and intrusion-hosted gold.
What the new results add to the gold story
Morningstar already had a historical gold footprint. Previous operators reported 9.19 g/t Au over 18.29m at the H Zone, 4.77 g/t Au over 28.95m at the B Zone and 1.59 g/t Au over 44.20m at Ignacio, including 12.19m at 4.99 g/t Au.
K2's latest surface work adds a polymetallic dimension to that historical gold footprint. The company is integrating the new assays with historical drilling and geology to assess whether high-grade shoots may be controlled by favourable carbonate units, thrust structures, intrusive bodies and intersecting fault and vein orientations.
For investors, the important distinction is between the strength of individual surface samples and the work still required to understand continuity, geometry and scale. The announcement presents the assays as a way to refine targets for drill testing. The high individual values are therefore part of an exploration picture that is still being interpreted alongside existing geology and drilling.
Next steps and technical caution
President and CEO Anthony Margarit said Morningstar's scale, proximity to the historic Cerro Gordo Mine and multiple mineralisation styles make it a compelling addition to K2's regional target pipeline. The company intends to refine a series of polymetallic targets for drill testing alongside its continuing Mojave exploration program.
That proposed drilling is the next step in testing whether the surface indications translate into coherent mineralised zones at depth. Until that work is completed, the sampling results are best read as target-generation data rather than a complete picture of the mineralised system.
K2 also included an important qualification: grab samples are selective by nature and are not necessarily representative of the grade or extent of mineralisation. The company has not independently verified all historical assay results cited in the announcement. Those limitations apply both to how the new surface results are interpreted and to how historical drill results are incorporated into the broader Morningstar model.
Overall, the Morningstar update gives K2 a multi-commodity exploration narrative around a corridor that had previously been viewed mainly through gold. The reported silver and copper values, together with the existing gold intercepts and several identified mineralisation styles, provide the basis for further target refinement. The next material information will come from the company's continuing geological integration and any drill testing that follows.
