PMET Resources Inc. (TSX: PMET) is presented by Cashu Research as a strategically important lithium developer, advancing the Shaakichiuwaanaan Project in Québec’s Eeyou Istchee James Bay region. The project is positioned as a potential source of North American and European battery raw materials as the lithium market moves toward its next supply cycle.
Cashu Research rates the stock BUY with a C$6.78 price target versus C$4.57 on Dec 5, 2025, implying 48% upside over 12 months. That is the research house’s view, not Cashu Finance advice. The recently completed Feasibility Study outlines ~800,000 tpa of SC5.5 over ~20 years at an AISC of ~US$597/t.
A large, long-life lithium project
PMET Resources, formerly Patriot Battery Metals, controls the 100%-owned Shaakichiuwaanaan Property, anchored by the CV5 lithium pegmatite. Cashu Research describes it as one of the most strategically important lithium assets in the Western Hemisphere, with a large spodumene resource, open-pit potential and exploration upside across targets including CV13 and CV9.
The project’s maiden Probable Reserve is 84.3 Mt at 1.26% Li₂O. The report says this is the largest undeveloped hard-rock lithium reserve in the Americas. It also identifies an additional 108 Mt of Indicated material and 33 Mt of Inferred material, providing potential mine-life extension and expansion optionality.
The operating concept is another part of the investment case. Cashu Research cites total cash costs of ~US$544/t alongside the ~US$597/t AISC. It also points to simple geology and a conventional DMS-only flow sheet, which the report says should reduce processing risk. Infrastructure advantages include proximity to hydropower at LG4 Station, all-season roads, nearby airstrips and lodging.
The resource is not limited to lithium. Shaakichiuwaanaan hosts the world’s largest defined pollucite-hosted caesium resource and one of the largest tantalum resources globally. These commodities could provide by-product credits and add economic resilience, although the project’s central investment proposition remains its spodumene scale.
Strategic validation and a tightening market backdrop
Volkswagen’s PowerCo has invested ~C$69M for 9.9% equity in PMET and secured offtake for 12.5% of production over 10 years. Cashu Research views the partnership as top-tier validation of the project, while also saying it improves financing options and reduces long-term marketing risk.
The broader market thesis rests on a potential gap between lithium demand and supply. The report says demand is forecast to grow six-fold from 2023 to 2030, driven by electric-vehicle adoption, grid-scale storage and Western efforts to secure IRA-aligned supply chains. By 2029, it says, the world will require more lithium in a single year than was mined between 2015 and 2022 combined.
Cashu Research expects supply growth to lag demand in the second half of the decade, as new mines face long permitting timelines, rising capital costs and a scarcity of Tier-1 deposits. Lithium prices, after correcting sharply from the 2022 peak, stabilised through late 2024 and early 2025 and are now showing early signs of recovery, according to the report.
Valuation depends on execution
At the report’s valuation snapshot, PMET has a market cap of C$741.57m and cash on hand of $61m labelled Sept. Cashu Research’s base case is a C$6.78 price target, based on the view that the stock trades at a material discount to its resource quality and development progress. The report says a re-rating toward more typical developer multiples as permitting and financing de-risk could support a move toward the C$6–7 per-share range.
The development schedule is long but defined. A Final Investment Decision is targeted for late 2027, with commissioning expected to begin from late 2029. In the report’s bull case, a smooth permitting process, financing with limited dilution and normalised lithium prices could push the valuation above C$16 per share.
The risks investors need to weigh
The report’s main funding challenge is the estimated ~C$1.5B capital requirement. That would require a structured financing package, although Cashu Research says strategic and government support reduce the risk. Financing terms and potential dilution therefore remain important variables for shareholders.
Permitting is another milestone to monitor. The report says standard Québec timelines apply and describes the process as well understood, but the project cannot advance to construction without the required approvals. PMET also has single-asset exposure, which Cashu Research calls typical for a pre-production company but says is partly offset by the project’s Tier-1 scale.
The investment case therefore depends on PMET converting a large resource, a strategic partnership and a completed Feasibility Study into permits, financing and construction.
