Zai Lab Strengthens Oncology Pipeline with MediLink Collaboration

Zai Lab Limited has announced a strategic collaboration with MediLink Therapeutics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd., focusing on the development of a novel antibody-drug conjugate (ADC), ZL-6201. This partnership allows Zai Lab to leverage MediLink’s proprietary TMALIN® ADC platform, aiming to enhance its oncology pipeline with a potential first-in-class therapy targeting multiple solid tumors. The collaboration is particularly timely as these tumors present significant unmet medical needs, and Zai Lab is positioning itself to address these challenges head-on. Preliminary preclinical results for ZL-6201 are promising, with plans for an Investigational New Drug (IND) application expected to be filed in 2025, marking a critical milestone in the drug development process.

Rafael G. Amado, M.D., President of Zai Lab, expresses strong enthusiasm for this collaboration, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to developing innovative cancer therapies. Zai Lab’s existing ADC portfolio is already robust, featuring TIVDAK (tisotumab vedotin), which is nearing commercialization, alongside two other ADC programs, ZL-1310 and ZL-6301. ZL-1310, which targets DLL3, is currently undergoing Phase 1 trials and has demonstrated encouraging efficacy and safety results in patients with recurrent extensive-stage small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Through this new partnership with MediLink, Zai Lab not only broadens its therapeutic offerings but also reinforces its position as a leader in the ADC space.

The focus of this collaboration centers on the LRRC15 protein, which is overexpressed in various mesenchymal tumors and plays a significant role in tumor metastasis and the creation of an immune-suppressive tumor microenvironment. By targeting LRRC15, Zai Lab seeks to develop therapies that effectively combat these aggressive cancers. MediLink’s CEO, Tony Xue, underscores the partnership's potential to deliver innovative therapies to patients globally, emphasizing the shared vision of both companies to tackle critical gaps in cancer treatment. This collaboration positions Zai Lab to make substantial contributions to oncology, particularly in the ADC sector, where advancements are crucial for improving patient outcomes.

In addition to this partnership, Zai Lab continues to expand its research initiatives, focusing on innovative solutions for complex medical conditions. The company is dedicated to fostering collaborations that enhance its capabilities and drive advancements in oncology. With a commitment to addressing unmet needs in cancer treatment, Zai Lab aims to bring transformative therapies to the market, further solidifying its role as a key player in the biopharmaceutical industry.
