UroGen Pharma Reports Long-Term Efficacy of JELMYTO in Treating Low-Grade Upper Tract Urothelial Cancer

UroGen Pharma Ltd. has unveiled promising findings from a long-term follow-up study regarding its FDA-approved treatment, JELMYTO® (mitomycin) for pyelocalyceal solution, specifically designed for patients with low-grade upper tract urothelial cancer (LG-UTUC). The study, which builds upon data from the OLYMPUS trial, indicates that among the 41 patients who achieved a complete response to JELMYTO, the median duration of response is an impressive 47.8 months. With a median follow-up period of 28.1 months, these results underscore the potential of JELMYTO to provide sustained disease control, as highlighted by Dr. Phillip Pierorazio. The findings, published in the March issue of The Journal of Urology, position JELMYTO as a significant option in the long-term management of LG-UTUC.

The analysis confirms the treatment's efficacy while also addressing critical therapeutic goals of relapse prevention and organ function preservation, which are paramount for patients diagnosed with LG-UTUC. Dr. Mark Schoenberg, UroGen’s Chief Medical Officer, emphasizes that the long-lasting response duration demonstrates the treatment's robustness as a primary intervention. However, the study does acknowledge certain limitations, including its post-hoc nature and potential selection bias among the 20 patients involved in the long-term follow-up, which could affect the generalizability of the results.

To further explore the long-term effectiveness of JELMYTO, UroGen Pharma is actively enrolling participants in the JELMYTO uTRACT Registry, which has already activated 21 sites and enrolled 228 patients. This initiative aims to gather more real-world data on the treatment's performance and enhance understanding of its role in clinical practice, particularly for patients with LG-UTUC. JELMYTO's innovative formulation as a mitomycin-containing reverse thermal gel allows it to transition from a viscous liquid to a semi-solid gel at body temperature. This unique characteristic facilitates a controlled release and elimination process through normal urinary flow, marking a significant advancement in the management of urothelial cancers.

UroGen's ongoing commitment to advancing treatment options underscores its position as a leader in the oncology space, particularly for specialty cancers. As the company continues to build on the promising data from its clinical studies and registry initiatives, it aims to enhance patient outcomes and expand the therapeutic landscape for those affected by upper tract urothelial cancer.
