Myriad Genetics and SOPHiA GENETICS Team Up for Liquid Biopsy Companion Diagnostics
Myriad Genetics, a prominent player in molecular diagnostic testing, solidifies its position in the oncology landscape through a strategic collaboration with SOPHiA GENETICS. This partnership aims to create a global liquid biopsy companion diagnostic (CDx) test tailored for pharmaceutical companies. By leveraging Myriad's advanced laboratory capabilities in the United States and SOPHiA's expansive network of over 800 connected institutions across more than 70 countries, the two companies are set to facilitate the worldwide deployment of innovative diagnostic solutions. The collaboration represents a significant advancement in the cancer care continuum, aiming to enhance patient experiences while supporting the development and commercialization of comprehensive CDx solutions for biopharmaceutical partners.
The initial focus of this collaboration centers on the liquid biopsy application known as MSK-ACCESS®, powered by SOPHiA DDM™. This innovative test detects actionable genomic alterations from a single blood draw, utilizing advanced algorithms to analyze circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA). By simplifying the testing process, Myriad and SOPHiA aim to improve the accessibility of critical genomic information that can guide treatment decisions for cancer patients. Sam Raha, President and CEO of Myriad Genetics, underscores the importance of this initiative in driving growth in the company's CDx programs while ultimately benefiting patients through enhanced diagnostic accuracy and treatment personalization.
Regulatory responsibilities are divided between the two companies, with Myriad taking charge of submissions in the U.S. and SOPHiA managing those outside the country. This division of labor allows for a more efficient and streamlined approach to regulatory processes, enabling both companies to concentrate on their core competencies. Jurgi Camblong, Co-founder and CEO of SOPHiA GENETICS, emphasizes that this collaboration signifies a pivotal development for the industry, merging the strengths of a specialty lab with a global testing network. The partnership aims to establish a new hybrid model in companion diagnostics, facilitating broader access to innovative oncology testing solutions. Insights regarding the collaboration will be shared at the upcoming World CB and CDx Summit in Boston, further highlighting its potential to advance personalized healthcare and liquid biopsy technologies.
In addition to the collaboration, Myriad Genetics continues to focus on enhancing its molecular testing portfolio, aligning its offerings with the growing demand for precision medicine. The partnership with SOPHiA GENETICS not only reinforces Myriad’s leadership in the diagnostic space but also positions it at the forefront of the evolving landscape of cancer diagnostics. By prioritizing patient-centric approaches, both companies aim to make significant strides in the fight against cancer, ensuring that cutting-edge diagnostics are accessible to those who need them most.
