Eco Wave Power Progresses with Innovative Wave Energy Project in Portugal

Eco Wave Power Global AB (publ) is making significant strides in its wave energy project in Porto, Portugal, by engaging MOQ Engineering, a prominent Portuguese engineering firm, to finalize the design and load calculations. This collaboration signifies a critical development in the project, which is part of a larger 20 MW Concession Agreement with Administração dos Portos do Douro, Leixões e Viana do Castelo, S.A. (APDL). The project aims for a targeted launch in 2026 and will utilize Eco Wave Power's proprietary technology, enhancing the energy landscape in Portugal, which aspires to derive 85% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.

The project includes the innovative addition of an underwater wave energy museum and education center, located in "The Gallery" beneath the breakwater where the energy conversion equipment will be installed. This unique feature aims to promote awareness and education about wave energy technology, showcasing its potential and fostering community engagement. MOQ Engineering's focus on civil design and load calculations for the floaters—integral components of the wave energy conversion system—highlights the project’s engineering rigor. The completion of these calculations is anticipated by February 2025, after which Eco Wave Power plans to submit a full project execution plan to APDL for approval, paving the way for the production of the floaters.

This ambitious venture is poised to showcase the capacity for substantial energy generation from ocean waves, contributing to a reduction in the port's carbon footprint while fostering job creation in the region. As Eco Wave Power advances its initiatives in locations like Taiwan and the Port of Los Angeles, the company continues to solidify its position as a leader in renewable energy innovation. CEO Inna Braverman emphasizes the importance of the partnership with MOQ Engineering, underscoring its role in ensuring high engineering and design standards for the project.

In addition to the Porto project, Eco Wave Power is actively exploring further initiatives on a global scale. The company’s commitment to advancing wave energy technology aligns with global energy transition goals, positioning it as a key player in the renewable energy sector. These developments reflect a broader trend towards innovative solutions in the renewable energy space, which are critical for reducing carbon emissions and achieving sustainability targets.
