Diodes Strengthens Automotive Lighting Solutions with New LED Driver
Diodes Incorporated, a semiconductor company based in Plano, Texas, enhances its automotive-compliant LED driver portfolio with the launch of the AL8866Q. This versatile DC-switching LED driver-controller is engineered to support high-power LED lighting applications, which are increasingly demanded in modern vehicles. The AL8866Q accommodates various configurations, including buck, boost, buck-boost, and SEPIC topologies, making it suitable for a wide range of automotive lighting needs such as daytime running lights, high and low beams, fog lights, turn signals, and brake lights.
One of the key features of the AL8866Q is its broad input voltage range of 4.7V to 85V, which aligns with common battery power rails of 12V, 24V, and 48V. This flexibility allows lighting designers to standardize on a single component type, thereby streamlining both inventory management and design processes. Additionally, the device incorporates a fixed-frequency peak current-mode control architecture operating at 400kHz, along with spread spectrum frequency modulation to ensure compliance with the rigorous CISPR 25 Class 5 standard for electromagnetic interference (EMI) performance.
The AL8866Q stands out with its advanced dimming capabilities, supporting both analog and PWM dimming with an impressive analog dimming range exceeding 100:1 and a ±12% output current accuracy at lower levels. This adaptability makes it an attractive solution for lighting designers aiming to optimize performance across automotive applications. Furthermore, the driver features a soft-start function to mitigate risks associated with overvoltage and overcurrent, alongside fault condition indicators to signal various operational issues. Available in SO-8EP and U-DFN3030-10 packages, the AL8866Q operates within an extensive temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, with pricing set at $0.50 and $0.48 for quantities of 1,000 pieces, respectively.
In addition to the automotive version, Diodes also offers a standard compliance variant, the AL8866, aimed at industrial and commercial applications. This reflects the company's broader commitment to delivering high-quality semiconductor solutions across diverse markets, ensuring that both automotive and industrial sectors benefit from cutting-edge technology and reliable performance.
