Diodes Incorporates Customization and Efficiency in Automotive Lighting Solutions
Diodes Incorporated has unveiled the AL5887Q, an innovative 36-channel linear LED current driver tailored for the automotive sector. This latest driver is designed to enhance the customization of vehicle lighting, allowing original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to create unique animated lighting patterns and varied color depths. The AL5887Q is particularly well-suited for both interior and exterior applications, including ambient lighting, rear lights, and electric vehicle (EV) charging indicators. With its ability to drive up to 12 RGB LED modules across three programmable banks, the device offers OEMs the flexibility to develop intricate lighting designs that can significantly enhance brand identity.
The AL5887Q's technical specifications further bolster its appeal to manufacturers. Each of the 36 channels can output currents of up to 70mA, ensuring optimal LED clarity without the need for parallel connections. It provides a hardware-selectable digital interface (I²C or SPI) to facilitate straightforward programming. Additionally, the driver features an automatic power-saving mode that consumes only 15µA and has an ultra-low quiescent shutdown of 1µA when the LEDs are inactive for over 30 milliseconds, thus minimizing unnecessary battery drain. These energy-efficient features align with the growing demand for sustainable solutions in the automotive industry.
Moreover, the AL5887Q includes several protective features, such as overtemperature protection and fault reporting capabilities, which enhance its reliability in various operating conditions. The built-in 16MHz oscillator for PWM dimming simplifies the design process by eliminating the need for external clock components, resulting in a reduced PCB footprint and lower bill of materials costs. With deep PWM dimming capabilities that modulate the duty cycle from 100% to 3%, the AL5887Q ensures precise color mixing and uniform light distribution across the RGB modules. The compact W-QFN6060-52/SWP package, measuring 6mm x 6mm, and a competitive price of $1.13 for 1,000-piece quantities further make this driver an attractive option for manufacturers.
In addition to its impressive features, the AL5887Q operates within a wide temperature range of -40°C to +125°C, certifying its robustness for automotive applications. Diodes Incorporated also offers a standard compliance version of the driver, the AL5887, catering to various industry needs. With the launch of the AL5887Q, Diodes underscores its commitment to advancing automotive lighting technologies, paving the way for enhanced customization and efficiency in modern vehicles.
