Delcath Systems Secures Funding to Advance Liver Cancer Treatments
Delcath Systems, Inc., an interventional oncology company focusing on innovative treatments for liver cancers, announces the exercise of 1.7 million Series E and E1 warrants, resulting in a significant capital influx of $16.3 million. The warrants, originally issued in mid-2019 at an exercise price of $10.00 per share, are set to expire on December 24, 2024. Approximately 6.6% of these warrants are subject to cashless exercise provisions, reflecting a strategic move by investors to support Delcath’s mission. This funding is expected to bolster the company’s existing cash reserves and anticipated operational revenue growth as it seeks to expand its commercialization efforts and clinical development strategies.
Delcath’s CEO, Gerard Michel, expresses optimism about the company’s financial positioning. The newly secured funds will primarily support the commercialization of the HEPZATO KIT™, Delcath’s flagship product designed for the delivery of high-dose chemotherapy directly to the liver while minimizing systemic exposure and associated side effects. The HEPZATO KIT™, which combines the chemotherapy agent melphalan with Delcath's proprietary Hepatic Delivery System (HDS), is currently FDA-approved for adult patients suffering from metastatic uveal melanoma with unresectable hepatic metastases affecting less than half of the liver. This innovative approach aims to improve treatment efficacy while prioritizing patient safety, a critical consideration in the oncology landscape.
In addition to its FDA-approved status in the U.S., Delcath's HDS is recognized as a Class III medical device in Europe, marketed as CHEMOSAT. This device is utilized in percutaneous hepatic perfusion procedures, reinforcing the company's commitment to providing effective and minimally invasive treatments for liver cancer patients. Delcath Systems aims to leverage its proprietary technologies to enhance the treatment paradigm for liver-directed therapies, addressing a pressing need in the oncology sector where effective treatments for liver cancers remain limited.
Delcath's advancements signal a promising trajectory for the company as it navigates the complexities of the interventional oncology field. The recent funding exercise not only strengthens its financial foundation but also underscores the growing interest in innovative treatment modalities for liver cancer, an area that continues to challenge healthcare providers and patients alike. As Delcath progresses with its clinical and commercial initiatives, the focus remains on delivering safe, effective solutions to improve patient outcomes in the fight against liver cancer.
