BluEnergies Partners with TotalEnergies to Unlock Hydrocarbon Potential in Harper Basin

BluEnergies Ltd. (TSXV: BLU) has entered into a transformative joint study and application agreement (JSAA) with TotalEnergies SE to explore the hydrocarbon potential of deep-water blocks in the Harper Basin, offshore Liberia. This collaboration is centered around blocks LB-26, LB-30, and LB-31 within the West Africa Transform Margin, a region recognized for its rich hydrocarbon resources. The partnership aims to assess the viability of these blocks through a comprehensive 18-month work program, which includes advanced seismic reprocessing and sea bottom data acquisition.

The work program, budgeted to facilitate extensive evaluation of the area, involves reprocessing a substantial 6,167 km² of 3-D seismic data collected in 2013, with TGS ASA, a prominent data provider in the energy sector, taking the lead. The insights gathered from this data will be crucial in determining the economic viability of potential drilling sites. Both companies are positioned to apply for production sharing contracts once economically feasible drilling prospects are identified, marking a significant step in expanding their operational footprint in the Harper Basin.

Moreover, BluEnergies has secured a new Reconnaissance License (RP-003) that covers approximately 8,924 km², in which BLU holds a 35% interest and TotalEnergies holds a 65% interest. This license, with a term extending until June 30, 2027, replaces the prior license and mandates the outlined work program, thereby enhancing the strategic framework for future hydrocarbon exploration in the area. BluEnergies’ previous investment of US$1,862,000 under the earlier license underscores the company’s commitment to advancing its exploration initiatives, a move that positions it favorably for upcoming production contracts.

In addition to the joint study agreement, the exploration efforts in the Harper Basin align with broader industry trends focusing on maximizing hydrocarbon output in underexplored regions. The West Africa Transform Margin continues to draw interest from major oil companies, which indicates a competitive landscape for hydrocarbon extraction. BluEnergies' partnership with TotalEnergies not only underscores its strategic positioning but also highlights the increasing collaboration among energy companies to tap into the region’s potential.

As BluEnergies and TotalEnergies embark on this ambitious exploration journey, the outcomes of their work could have significant implications for the energy landscape in Liberia and beyond, promising to unlock new opportunities in hydrocarbon production.
