CoDiagnostics Strengthens Influenza Detection Amid Rising Health Concerns
CoDiagnostics, Inc., a molecular diagnostics firm, announces the successful completion of an in silico analysis of the Co-Primers® used in its Logix Smart® ABC test. This innovative test is designed to simultaneously detect influenza A, influenza B, and COVID-19, addressing an urgent need for effective respiratory disease diagnostics. The analysis demonstrates significant homology against 3,900 influenza sequences, confirming the test’s reactivity against the influenza A H3N2 subclade K. This is particularly relevant as the World Health Organization highlights a troubling trend in seasonal influenza, with millions of severe cases reported annually and a significant number of deaths attributed to related complications. The mismatch of the current flu vaccine with the emerging subclade K raises concerns about potential outbreaks, making accurate and timely detection critical.
CEO Dwight Egan reaffirms the reliability of the Logix Smart ABC test, which has proven its consistent sensitivity over five years on CoDiagnostics' proprietary platform. The test, which received CE-marking in November 2020, specifically targets the MP gene of influenza A. Importantly, mutations from the subclade K occur in the HA region, but Egan assures that these changes will not adversely affect the test’s sensitivity. The company’s proactive approach to respiratory disease diagnostics positions it favorably as healthcare providers and public health officials seek reliable tools to manage the flu season, especially in light of reports of early flu cases emerging from regions like Japan and the UK.
In addition to its work on the Logix Smart ABC test, CoDiagnostics is also advancing its Co-Dx PCR Flu A/B, COVID-19, RSV point-of-care multiplex test, currently undergoing clinical testing for FDA 510(k) clearance. This development underscores the company's commitment to expanding its diagnostic capabilities beyond COVID-19, addressing various infectious diseases that pose health risks globally. As the healthcare landscape evolves, CoDiagnostics' focus on high-quality PCR testing solutions is timely, offering essential tools to combat not just COVID-19, but also seasonal influenza and other respiratory illnesses.
Further demonstrating its dedication to global health, CoDiagnostics’ joint venture, CoSara Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd., participates in the 2nd Advanced TB Diagnostics Course in Chennai, India. This workshop, aimed at enhancing tuberculosis detection and research capabilities in the South-East Asian region, features discussions on new diagnostic technologies and policy development. Engaging with global health experts and organizations like the WHO and The Gates Foundation, CoDiagnostics emphasizes its role in addressing significant public health challenges, particularly in the context of diseases like tuberculosis that continue to affect millions worldwide.
