Aeva and Wideye: Pioneering In-Cabin LiDAR Technology for Enhanced Vehicle Safety

Aeva Technologies, a frontrunner in advanced sensing and perception systems, collaborates with Wideye, a division of AGC Group, to unveil the first functional Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) in-cabin 4D LiDAR solution targeted at passenger vehicles. This innovative technology will be showcased at CES 2025, reflecting Aeva's commitment to safety and automation in the automotive industry. The Aeva Atlas™ 4D LiDAR sensor is ingeniously integrated behind the windshield, enhancing long-range sensing capabilities while preserving the vehicle’s aesthetics and aerodynamics. This strategic placement not only maximizes the sensor's performance but also ensures that the overall design of the vehicle remains sleek and unaltered.

The collaboration highlights the custom glass developed by Wideye, specifically optimized for Aeva’s FMCW wavelength. This advancement significantly boosts infrared light transmission while achieving high-quality LiDAR point clouds with minimal absorption. The dual benefit of protecting the sensor from environmental factors and facilitating easier cleaning ensures that road visibility is consistently maintained. Gaetan Friart, CEO of Wideye by AGC, underscores the importance of this technology in meeting the increasing demand for safety and automation in modern vehicles without sacrificing design integrity. As the automotive landscape shifts towards greater reliance on advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and fully autonomous driving, this partnership positions Aeva and Wideye at the forefront of a critical industry evolution.

Mina Rezk, Co-Founder and CTO of Aeva, emphasizes that the integration of LiDAR technology is essential for advancing vehicle automation, particularly for highway-speed capabilities. This collaboration not only showcases Aeva's innovative approach to sensing technology but also reinforces the importance of seamless integration between sensor systems and vehicle design. The product's debut at CES 2025 is poised to attract significant attention from industry stakeholders, further solidifying Aeva's role as a leader in the automotive sensing market.

In addition to this breakthrough, Wideye continues to focus on enhancing ADAS technologies, which are vital for the development of fully autonomous vehicles. Established in 2016 and supported by AGC Automotive Europe, Wideye is committed to driving innovation in optical sensor integration. Visitors to CES 2025 can experience this cutting-edge technology at Aeva's booth (#6900) in the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the future of vehicle safety and automation will be on full display.
